The BBC has unveiled a first glimpse of its upcoming drama Wild Cherry, a six-part series created by Mood star and writer Nicôle Lecky. The show delves into the dynamics of two mother-daughter relationships within the exclusive community of Richford Lake.
At the center of the story is Lorna (played by Carmen Ejogo), a self-made and successful businesswoman from North West London, and her best friend Juliet (Eve Best), who was born into the affluence of Richford Lake. Their daughters, Grace (Imogen Faires) and Allegra (Amelia May), have also grown up closely intertwined, enjoying the privileges that come with their elite upbringing.
However, their seemingly perfect world is upended when the two teenagers become entangled in a controversy at their private school. As tensions mount, Lorna and Juliet find themselves on opposing sides, bringing long-buried secrets and underlying social divisions to the surface.
According to the show’s synopsis, Wild Cherry explores how “hidden truths and deception begin to unravel the town’s pristine facade, exposing deep-seated elitism and underlying tensions.”
The newly released first-look images offer a glimpse into the luxurious lives of the lead characters, showcasing grand settings, extravagant parties, and prestigious education. One striking photo features the four main characters together, with the mothers exuding a sense of protectiveness over their daughters.
Produced by the team behind The Jetty, the series is described as an insightful and compelling look at mother-daughter relationships in the modern era, addressing themes of social media influence, secret online interactions, and the pressures of teenage life.
The ensemble cast includes Sophie Winkleman, Daniel Lapaine, Hayat Kamille, Isabelle Allen, James Murray, Jason York, Katarina Čas, Nathaniel Martello-White, Sonita Henry, Tara Webb, Will Bagnall, and Hugh Quarshie. In addition to writing and executive producing, Nicôle Lecky also takes on a lead role in the series.
