Following his praised performance in The Penguin last year, Colin Farrell’s 2022 film, The Banshees of Inisherin, is set to premiere on television. The film, directed by Martin McDonagh, reunites Farrell with his In Bruges co-star Brendan Gleeson for a darkly comedic drama set on a fictional Irish island.
The story follows Pádraic (Farrell), who is left bewildered when his lifelong friend Colm (Gleeson) suddenly ends their friendship. This unexpected shift sends ripples through the lives of those around them, including Pádraic’s sister Siobhán (Kerry Condon) and the troubled Dominic (Barry Keoghan).
For those unable to catch tonight’s broadcast, The Banshees of Inisherin will be available for streaming on Channel 4’s platform shortly after its television debut. Additionally, a repeat airing is scheduled for Tuesday, February 25, at 9 PM on digital channel 4seven.
The film received nine Academy Award nominations but did not secure a win, largely due to the dominance of Everything Everywhere All At Once at the 2023 Oscars. However, it did achieve significant recognition at the BAFTAs, winning four awards, including Outstanding British Film.
Ahead of the movie’s release in 2022, Farrell and Gleeson discussed the possibility of collaborating with McDonagh on a third film. While Gleeson noted that the director is cautious about revisiting past successes, Farrell recalled reading an early version of The Banshees of Inisherin seven years ago, which McDonagh ultimately revised significantly before its final iteration.
With its mix of dark humor and poignant storytelling, The Banshees of Inisherin stands out as a compelling piece of cinema that continues to earn acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
